In January of 2009 I was appointed the CEO of Better Place Australia. Our mission is to remove the world's dependence on oil. Our headquarters are in Melbourne where I live with my wife Tracey Ellery and our three school-age kids.

Prior to this appointment I was a Member of the Victorian Parliament. I was elected the Member for Southern Metropolitan Region in late 2006 and I served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.

I’ve spent most of the last 15 years in business at a senior level - first with McKinsey & Company and then with LookSmart – the NASDAQ-listed technology company founded by Tracey and I.

Business took our family to Asia, New York and Silicon Valley, but we chose to come home to Melbourne almost 5 years ago as we truly believe it is the best place in the world to live and raise a family.

Since returning to Melbourne, I’ve been involved in a range of community organisations – including as being a Board Member of the Brotherhood of St.Laurence and contributed to policy debates through newspaper articles, TV and radio interviews. I am Chair of the Board of Per Capita, a public policy think tank, and I am National Secretary of the Australian Fabian Society. I was also a Founding Director of www.getup.org.au, an activist network with over 300,000 members.
